Comments on: Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher Video – UFC 100

I’d heard a lot about this fight, but after hearing that Akiyama was gonna be Wanderlei’s next opponent, I had to finally see it for myself. My opinion? Akiyama clearly won, although only by the slimmest of margines. Belcher landed a number of hard shots, but Akiyama didn’t really seem phased by them (I know that doesn’t mean anything score wise, but thought it really needed to be mentioned). Akiyama was the only one scoring takedowns, and even on his feet he was excellent at counter-punching someone with a huge reach advantage. I think Rogan is a good commentator, but I totally disagreed with him on this fight. As for Maxter’s comment that his takedowns didn’t accomplish anything because the lack of a “full mount,” did you see the elbows he dropped from the side mount? Or how about some of the shots he even landed from full guard? Just because you don’t get a full mount doesn’t mean you can’t do damage. I’ll admit Belcher did great at defending himself from the bottom but Akiyama still scored some of his best hits from the side guard.

I think it was the right call, Belcher hardly got “robbed”. It just looked better with Akiyama’s eye being messed up but Akiyama had the take downs and a lot of clean punches. Close one but the right call.

When I first saw this fight on the night that it happened I thought that it was a bad decision and that Belcher deserved the win. After watching it again though I see that while Belcher did significant damage in the last round and looked good in the other two that Akiyama definitely took the second round and did slightly more in the first. A razor sharp decision but I think Akiyama deserved the win. Good fight.

ok… 1st round was almost either way, i would say belcher though. 2nd was definately akiyama 100%. 3rd round was almost a close call, for those of you who said akiyama dominated the 1st 2 rounds i don’t think we were watching the same fight! Akiyama had some clean punches but belcher clearly landed the more devastating ones, including one that knocked asia on his ass! Akiyama never did anything significant never even got a full mount so the take downs are almost irrelevant except for the scoring aspect of the fight. The leg kicks that belcher delivered through late 2nd and 3rd rounds were clearly the deciding factors, quite frankly akiyama was gassed, hurt, and 50% blind. Belcher 29/28. Only reason why asia got the decision is because he is a valuable asset to the UFC, he will bring more money cuz of his fame…. End of story faggots and Joe is smarter at MMa than anyone here so show some respect pussies.

Belcher got robbed? Oh c’mon man, that’s a whole lot of bull, you gotta admit that it was cleanand fair fight. Perhaps the commentators shouldn’t ‘underestimate’ asian fighters, thats a first mistake; everyone is equal just depends on the fighter. Not to mention Belchers disgraceful groin hit to Akiyama, it may be an accident but from the footage it doubt that.

commentators obviously like “white fighters” and not others including asian fighters so of course there going to sey stupid shit like belcher got robbed. Over all it was an entertaining clean fight. Don’t underestimate asian fighers. Nor always think “white fighters will win.
