That was the first UFC fight I’ve seen where all of a sudden it occured to me that it could be a setup. It seemed like Wandy missed a lot of opportunities, his punches were unusually wild and loopy, and most notably, his ground game was inexplicably non-existent. I know Chuck hit him hard in the 2nd and 3rd round, but particularly in the 1st it almost looked like he was letting Chuck get in his shots. And you can’t deny that Chuck has been the biggest money maker in history for Dane White, you know they’d love to have him back on top, drawing in those midddle -class, middle-aged white guys that the advertisers love so much.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think in general that the fix is on in the UFC. In fact, I have always considered this the most honest professional fighting sport going, but you can’t deny that the UFC has become a HUGE business, and a lot of that was on the back of Chuck. No way to prove it, but like I said, this was the first time I actually thought “I wonder…” in the middle of the fight.

If it went another round? He knew it was only three rounds so you can’t really use that as an excuse. If he could have finished Chuck off, then he would have. Wanderlei just lost to the better man that night.
