that was a clear poke in the eye, that ref should have given a time out for that like they usually do. I like cro cop but that was wrong he knew what he did.
June 13th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
The eye poke I don’t believe was intentional. Mirgliotta messed up…again. He should caught that and given Mustapha time to recover.

I double ditto the first two comments! I like Mirko as well but talk about an obvious unintentional poke in the eye by Mirko… it doesn’t get any more obvious than this one was, so how the ref. missed the call on this one is beyond me? Even when viewing it from the bad camera angle from the opposite side, it was obvious that Al Turk’s instant reaction of reaching for his own eye and turning away bent over, that he was poked in the eye and should have been given the time needed to recover? Sad and unfortunate ending! No other way to describe it!

The eye-poke wasn’t cool, but he would have kicked his ass anyway, so…
June 13th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
if its not a nut shot, its an eye poke, crocop is such a cheap ass now
June 14th, 2009 at 12:54 am
@Maz, roger and aero, it was obviously accidental. al Turk threw himself into it, it was not a strike from Crocop. The method is for defense and he ran into it. You could hear the penitence in Crocop’s voice.
As mentioned before, the ref should have recognized it and gave al Turk time to recover.
Good card, too bad we didn’t get to see the whole fight. We have all seen turnarounds in matches, that could have very well happened here seeing that al Turk was initially handling things very well.

pederska igra na hrvatot,to nije pravedna borba!!!

ja navijam za mirko, ali ovo nije to,treba se muski boriti

cro cop is my favourite, that said, I also want to say that the fact that he’s my favourite doesn’t affect my opinion on the fight.
Cro cop would never use an eye poke, this was a mistake. Also, even though he said that he was happy with his performance, I am not and he shouldn’t be.
If the eye poke wouldn’t have taken place, I predict that he would have knocked Turk out at the end of the 1st round or the beginning of the 2nd. Turk put up a good fight but I doubt he would’ve lasted that long, you can see how easy it was for Cro cop to throw Turk away when Turk tried to take him down, and another take down by Cro Cop and Turk would’ve been history
June 14th, 2009 at 2:22 am
Watched it live, I wanted Cro cop to win and it was obvious from the beginning that he would. I was dissappointed at the poke but it was an accident and cro cop isn’t proud of it. Turk wasn’t going to last much longer anyway as far as i an concerned cro cop let him up earlier because he didn’t want the fight to be so short.

Poke in the eye or not this was so over…
June 14th, 2009 at 5:23 am
People just tell me how often you can hear “I’m sorry” from one of the fighters in the UFC? Just a question…
June 14th, 2009 at 5:28 am
Udarac u oko nije dozvoljen, suci su trebali zaustaviti borbu da se al Turk oporavi. Ali to nije Mirkova krivica, nego krivica sudaca. Ja mislim da Mirko nije ni vidio da ga je udario u oko.
June 14th, 2009 at 8:36 am
Cro-cop looked very good this fight, the eye poke was unintentional.
June 14th, 2009 at 8:59 am
It was the ref fault, seems like you guys want mirko to feel bad about it. It was the ref’s fault clearly.
June 14th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Sucks it ended like that, that eye poke was absolutely unintentional but the question is did cro cop realize it. I have no respect for him anymore since he bailed on his ufc contract (he had two more fight). miragliotta sucks and should be thrown out, he’s either poking people in the eye or not catching when people get poked in the eye.
June 14th, 2009 at 11:27 am
that poke in the eye is ground and pound
June 14th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
Mirko won and that is Totaly regular fighting, how many times somebody poke Mirko in the eye or Shaik Kongo kick his balls and nobady react on this! Mirko said that he didn’t want that way and Ciao baby, Al Turk was history for Him!
Bravo…. Mirko samo napred!
June 14th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Maz youre a retard. It was mirko who got knee’d in the balls during the fight against Kongo.
June 15th, 2009 at 10:23 am
They should have caught that…its like dana white tells the refs to not even be discrete about their bias. Most of the time and eye gouge IS intentional! If you are trying to catch a punch, then why in the hell would you use your index and pinky spread at eye width? That, i beleive is intentional, he didnt even try to explain himself. I mean, yeah, Filipovich is a damn good fighter, back in pride he was the most dangerous striker in the world (Not including Fedor Emilianako). I think Dana White makes the former Pride Fighters to either Eye gouge, or use testicular attacks, or just throw fights. Look at Wanderlei, in my opinion the first or second best fighter in the world. In days of pride he was unstoppable, even by heavyweights. In the UFC however, even back in the day, Tony Pterra, Tito the Douche Ortiz, Vitor Belfort, and now RICH FUCKING FRANKLIN??? I choose not to beleive any of that…especially Tito, but then again, definitely Rich Facial Reconstruction Franklin!
June 15th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Back to the fight, (kudos ADHD), He did not poke his eye. HE POKED HIS EYES, plural, both of them simultaneously. I mean, did him and Dana the Dyke White practice this, going over it again and again until it was just instinct. I saw a move in Marine Corps. Martial Arts called the eye gouge, but they use all four fingers for the simple fact it is hard to gouge someones eyes so precisely. Unless, apparently, you are Mirko Filipovich (Cro Cop). Thats devestatingly accurate… Both eyes…wow. Maybe they should wear safety glasses. Either that or an eyepatch, and thats the way its looking for Al-DURKA-DURKA-TURKA. Shame on you Dana White, you and your Goddamned ZUFFA group. Bunch of eye gouging, unethical dick shooters!
June 15th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
it wasn’t intentional at all you dumb fucks al turk threw a jab with his left and mirko threw his right hand out to block it and hit his eye..mirgliotta fucks up all the time and it’s his fault so don’t call it intentional…cro cop was pounding the fuck out of him he didn’t need to poke him in the eye he was completely comfortable and confident
June 15th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
idk i dont think the ref had the time to stop it after it happened mirko got right on him and that was that. It was obvious that it was a block but also obvious that he did it, im sure he knew but ask yourself if it were you would u stop the attack because of a unintentional poke that may or may not won him the fight, thats why refs are paid to do there job. It sucked for Ak Turk but it is a fight and anything can and prolly will happen.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
The eye was not intentional, Cro Cop didnt mean to do it, he was just blocking a jab.
What he said after the fight, “That doesnt determin the outcome of the fight” (or something like that)sounded bad, I know, but thats just cause his english sucks and he didnt know how to express it in English.
June 16th, 2009 at 3:58 am
I’m not sure why Mirgliotta is still working!! I was going for Cro Cop, but for fair play! That ref has always been a piece of shit to me ever since he stopped the Vera/Werdum fight. That was a bad stoppage. This ref sucks more than any of them!
June 16th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
weak sauce!
June 17th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Aric…sorry man, but that’s just off the mark.
There is absolutely no foundation to the claim that Dana White is instructing fighters to cheat and/or throw fights. That’s completely baseless and illogical. Dana White is a businessman over anything else, and he’s known all along that the acquisition of PRIDE’s biggest stars is nothing but money in the bank. It seems by your suggestion you feel that White is deliberately trying to shame former PRIDE fighters by instructing them to lose to UFC fighters. That’s patently absurd.
If what you say is true, then the same thing should be happening in the fights of Anderson Silva, Heath Herring, Dan Henderson, Rampage Jackson, etc., and it clearly isn’t.
My take is that Mirko – as great as he has been – did not adequately prepare for his transition to the UFC. He admittedly did not train in a cage for his first few fights, and may not have had much scouting on his opponents to go on…I don’t know. The bottom line is, his performance in the UFC has been less than stellar, which is why I think he’s decided to jump ship and change promotions before his record gets any worse. As for Wand, even the fights he has won recently, he just isn’t the same fighter he used to be. I think he has already peaked, and is on the downhill slope of his career. Unfortunate at such an early age, but it happens to some.
In any case, to say that White/Zuffa have intentionally brought 2 of the world’s most popular and dynamic fighters into their organization just to instruct them to lose is ridiculous. Sorry, but it is. That would be a horrid business decision, and if nothing else, White has shown that he is a smart businessman. I don’t agree with everything he says and does, but he does know how to run a successful business.
As for this fight, the poke was CLEARLY unintentional, and the responsibility lies squarely on the referee. Things like this have happened so many times I’ve lost count. For instance, the ref was staring directly at Matt Hughes when Frank Trigg hit him in the cup, and Hughes still won that fight. The ref should have paused that one too, and didn’t, and it didn’t affect the outcome. It happens all the time, and it is unfortunate when it does affect the result, but that is relatively rare.
You guys need to remember that and stop inventing excuses for accidents.
June 26th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
Yes a accidential eye poke is right. He should have been given time to recover, but the worst ref in UFC history (prison Pussy Dan mirgolitta) did not give him time to recover so cro cop finished him off like he would have anyways.
July 6th, 2009 at 11:38 am
OK, so maybe i have a few issues with Dana “The Dyke” White, but so what? Business man? No. Douche? Definitely! However the fact that C.B. uses logic is an unfair debate advantage. This is The Ultimate DykeFighting Championship. We all know thinking is strictly prohibited and clearly looked down upon. But that was a profoundly provocative rebuttle. I say we just stop all this arguing right now and allow the eye gouge… I mean Matt “The Poon” Hughes did it just fine, and Filipovich seems to have perfected it. He really did hit him in both eyes. Im not callin him a cheater im just sayin thats pretty precise. Besides, Croations dont have rules, they just beat eachother. And this whole Dan Mirgliota thing, dont blame him, blame Dana White, or Canada. We shouldnt even have referees, all they do is look out for the fighters well being. We dont need that bullshit. And whats this blocking people have been doing. Just take it on the chin, that way you can better gauge their power and precision. In fact, we will make eye gouges legal, low blows still illegal (we dont need any extra dick kickers in the UDFC), and make kicks, stomps, and knees to a downed opponent’s head/face legal. If you want to shoot in like Matt Hughes, go on and get your face stomped like Kazayuki IronHead Fujita (Courtesy of Wanderlei The Axe-Murderer Silva). And while were at it, drop the legal age for consumption of alcohol in this country, decriminalize weed, and somebody please put Dickless Cheney in a “Retirement CAMP” (Guantanamo Bay)

August 17th, 2009 at 10:47 am
MIRKO LOOKED LIKE HE WAS GOING TO WIN EITHER WAY, BUT THE REF FUCKED UP, THE WORST FUCK UP I HAVE EVER SEEN IN UFC. HOW COULD YOU NOT SEE THAT IS SO FUCKING OBVIOUS A BLIND PERSON COULD HAVE FELT IT, FOR GODS SAKE HE TURNED HIS FUCKING BACK AND PUT HIS HANDS ON HIS EYES, REF IS A COCKFACE!!!!!
August 17th, 2009 at 10:50 am

August 20th, 2009 at 10:17 am
did u se the right hand al turk caught him with at the start of the fight ? if teh fight went on cro cop woudve lost his stamina due to his injury 4 months earlyier and lack of training (due to it) so i predicted it to be a points decison ( win to Mustahpa al turk) and the eye poke looked intentional to me who punched with thier hand open ? …like he wanted to high five the guys face or something.
