I like Jake Shields but he kinda fought like a bi***, he did enough to win but never really did any damage just kinda sat there in an advantage position

Those who said Shields fought like a bi***, please learn some ground game or go watch kickboxing. I was actually rooting for Mayhem but you got to give Shields the credit for TRYING to finish the fight. He went for rear naked more than I can count + arm triangle and heel hook attempt.

But yes, Jake was saved by the bell.

shields did just enough to win, but honestly the fight was boring on his part. what he did in the fight was basically lay and pray. mayhem had plenty of escapes but shields held his legs and kept on top of him for the most part of the rounds.

I believe Shields when he said the choke was on tight, but also stated that he did not originally fight it off much because he knew time was about to expire. Makes sense since miller got the choke on pretty easily.

He played it safe and is champion. Miller should learn more ground skills or have imposed his will. Wilt and Shaq are not the best free throw or 3 point shooters but dominated where they wanted to take it, to the rim as Jake did. His goal is to win first, not make everyone happy by taking risks going for a varity of subs in his arsenal or swinging wildly like many do.

ahhh!!!! this fight made me so mad.. shields the so called submission specialist and virtuoso should have took advantage of those positions. He had full mount and his back like 8 times and couldnt do shit. Mayhem should get points for submission escapes and defenses. When he tried to run his thai on the feet shields had no match and just went back to lay and pray. I would give this decision to mayhem and leave shields to think about his conservative style. Personally I don’t think a title should be given out for a win like this. Shields lost mad respect in this fight regardless.

I follow Strikeforce in general along with most MMA, but this was the first event i’ve had the opportunity to watch live.

That being said… Jason Miller’s intro/ walk to the cage (which isn’t shown here) was just embarrassing for real MMA fans and can’t imagine why Strikeforce would allow it as they strive to legitimize themselves and MMA.

I’m all for fighters being lighthearted and even cocky if you can back it up (and he fought ok) but come on, coming out in what I can only assume is some sort of dramatic Jesus robe and then dancing with cheerleaders and crotch thrusting the camera!! Dude, you’re not Apollo walking out to fight a huge Russian!! And this is not the WWE!

You are about to fight for the belt on you organization’s biggest card with a huge opportunity to reach new fans. Maybe just a little class is in order. So bush league. It only made me glad to see him lose. I mean do you think he would be taken seriously fighting for a title in the UFC with that crap. No, he’d come out like acting like a no talent ass clown and then catch the beat down he deserved.

As a fan of MMA I hope strikeforce will not continue to promote crap like that. Would hate to see them do for MMA what the XFL did for football. He should keep that crap on MTV.

Part of what i loved so much about Sakuraba was the carefree nature in which he entered the ring… I find UFC walkouts far too sterile…
