The boxing promoter talks to FanHouse’s Ariel Helwani about why Pacquaio vs. Mayweather will never happen and why he detests MMA. It seems this guy is living in his own world. He is definitely trying to protect his sport but he is much misinformed. Kind of feel sorry for him.

this guy is funny. rolling round like homosexuals? what trying to break a limb or smash someones face in? I think he knows mma is growing and boxing is in decline hes trying to defend his sport but just makes himself look like a jack ass stuck in 1960s

“neither oare the mexicans, neither are the phillipinos and neither are the blacks.” aside from that, he calls it garbage? so on what planet are olympic wrestlers and olympic judoka alongside world champions in other martial arts (jitz and sambo namely) garbage?

what a stupid ass… I’m a proud Mexican and “WAS” a boxing fan until UFC #3 and then… I guess after Oscar’s olympic gold it started to go down hill for me. If I have the denero I’m spending it on the UFC period. Atleast your getting your money’s worth. This old ass fart maybe knows 6 “ethnic” people all together. He just proved why boxing is shit now. Homeboy doing the interview should of shoved that mic down his old prostate cancer having ass’s mouth.

i dont understand the whole hispanic people dont buy ufc or mma ppv’s. im latino and my entire intermediate family has been watching mma for many years now. i wish boxing promoters and boxers would stop saying this.

I think its because they know their sport’s popularity is waning and they are grasping at anything they can think of, true or not…

What an old racist. Boy, he needs some therapy.

For a huge player in the fight game, MMA or boxing, to think this way it’s a bad omen for the future of boxing. How will Arum retain his audience as boxing fans, who feel exactly the way he does about boring “superstars” like Mayweather? All of boxing is going to need to wrap their heads around MMA so they can figure out an effective strategy to combat MMA or see boxing’s American audience wither away slowly & painfully. There is definitely talent in boxing. Pacquiao & the Latino boxers are keeping boxing afloat & will going forward. Arum needs to wise up quick.

Another thing. To my fellow commentators on this & all MMA sites. Please realize the responsibility you guys have here. When non-MMA people come here & look at our sites they’re reading your comments. They see all of your grammar & spelling errors & enforce what Arum is saying here. We’re a bunch of stupid rednecks who can’t write a simple sentence or have a clear thought written down. I *BEG* you, please, represent the sport & our fan base & do A LITTLE work when you leave comments. “Paperview”? “Philipinos”? I expect some flaming for this but you know I’m right.

Ehhh… He’s a bias boxing promotor… He’s just ignorant. MMA has a larger following world wide than it does domestically. Like boxing, given 5-10 years they’ll both be close to the grave.
September 12th, 2009 at 9:13 am
Is Arum serious? Of course, he is. Hey, he’s as old as the hills. MMA didn’t exist while he was growing up. Of course, he hates it. I don’t like many things of the younger generation, but to go as far as hating MMA? We are a bunch of homosexuals? I can show him Homo; put his kid in the Octagon. Ask his grandchildren what they want to be when they grow up and I’ll bet you they will say “I want to be a MMA fighter like those skin heads my grandpa is talking about. Heck, my dad used to criticize my generation, when he lived. He didn’t like sandles, long hair or bell bottoms. According to him, the folks who wore that attire were homosexuals. I guess it has to do with that generation. That was the WWII era; the Korean War era. They grew up thinking that way. I suppose I can’t really fault Arum for his opinion, because he’ll make enough enemies for his politically (incorrect) unpopular opinions. Besides, I love my dad.

BTW, Spellig error: sandals. OK? I hit submit before I actually proofread it. Sorry folks.

My mother and I used to have this same debate, but it was over VHS and DVD. She refused to watch or enjoy movies on DVD because she loved her VHS so much, even though they were the exact same movies. A little time went by, and you all know how that debate ended. Now, my mother watches Blu-rays on her PS3, and she loves em’. Rest in Peace Boxing.:)

I won’t be “sugarcoating” this… Since when do all boxing fans know how to spell and use correct grammar? Just because one old ass man says some stupid ass comments about MMA fans doesn’t mean they’re true. I don’t give a F*** what people that are not MMA fans think and neither should anyone else that work and pay their hard earned money to see a(n) pay-perview. Sounds like your quick the the spell check… Some boxers don’t know how to spell, speak, or use correct grammar. Since when did you have to be a genius to leave a comment? If you don’t like it, don’t Fuc*** look at it. Spell check that B****!!!

A Bunch of Tattooed Homosexual Skinheads!!!!
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
September 12th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Wishful thinking? This old man probably doesn’t watch MMA because it turns him on.
September 13th, 2009 at 1:31 am
sugarcoater, I like the way you care so much about MMA and how it’s presentated.
However people use ’slang’ all the time on the internet , just go and check out all those comments on youtube about some boxers are certainly not a whole lot diffrent so you’re pretty far off I think.
However I don’t care I say what I like and whether that’s correct spelling or not , I’m not from native an english speaking coutntry :d

mmm that guy’s an idiot =T

First of all, we don’t have to worry about boxing. Boxing has been around for centuries & will always be so they don’t have to worry about failure. They are already a success. The fact that small time promoters can hold boxing events in every state & that boxing is an olympic sport is proof enough- even outside of the millions of dollars it generates. If you REALLY care about the sport of MMA you WOULD be considerate of the legitimacy of the sport & it’s success not just how many pay-per-view dollars it generates. That is just a short sighted position to maintain & it doesn’t help anybody.
Secondly, Bob Arum is NOT just an old man. He’s a major boxing promoter & Dana White, himself, claims to have learned a whole lot from him. I’m not saying Arum’s comments will hurt MMA because we all can see MMA growing inspite of these old people’s opinions. I’m more interested that Arum’s position will hurt boxing it’s success which, like it or not, has a big influence on MMA & how it operates. The two sports can survive & actually help each other instead of eat away at each other.
As for needing to be a genius to leave comment no one is saying that either. I hold MMA fighters & fans to a higher expectation than boxing fans because MMA is a more intelligent & difficult sport. We MMA fighters live in 3 dimensions more of risk than any boxers. We get knocked out by punches, elbows, kicks not to mention the ground game & all of it’s different skills. Yet, we still don’t get the same respect as boxing or can pay MMA fighters what boxers get. MMA, today, is fighting for legitimacy. It’s won hugely by TUF, & the hardwork of organizations like UFC, Pride, IFC, Strikeforce & Affliction, just to name a few. Still, we are still underground. Having fans that are vocal, that can convey a clear thought & effectively market our sport, publicly, to be what it can be benefits all of us as fans, fighters, & promoters. Fans wouldn’t complain that certain fighters refuse to fight others because there’d be a central, giant entity that would ensure the best would fight the best & the claim of “best heavyweight” was, in fact, legitimate. We fighters would earn the money we deserve because we train 3x harder than pro boxers & give more exciting shows. Everyone, including promoters would make money from bigger crowds & bigger pay-per-view sales. I think the biggest beneficiaries would be the public because they could see our sport for what it is. It’s a science, executed by diverse personalities from all over the world who love to be able to provide for themselves & their families & entertain people globally.
We all have a choice to censor what we read & watch. I just want more people to read about our sport & see that it’s a great thing. That just helps everybody to make MMA better. No spell check necessary.

Blah, blah, blah…MMA will take over, no matter what you say sugar. Money is what makes the world of sports go round. MMA compaired to boxing is a very young sport and has already made boxing shaking in their boots. Just think how big its gonna be in only 10 years from now. I know we want the same thing as MMA fans, but think how you come across to people that have no idea who you are and you come out and start with the judging of how people type. You do you and I’ll do me…and I barley know how to turn on a computer so I couldn’t even begin to tell you how to spell check, its all natrual baby.
